The Fellowes Company was founded in 1917 by Harry Fellowes as the Bankers Box Company. Harry Fellowes was an entrepreneur with a drive to succeed. However due to no formal education and financial difficulties within the family he had to start working as a tailor in Chicago in 1917. In 1914, new legislation had been passed in the US demanding businesses to keep written records for tax purposes. Harry was fascinated by this sudden demand for a simple product. Harry Fellowes decided to buy his friend's shipment of boxes for $50, believing strongly that demand for these boxes would rise. He was able to successfully promote the product and sky rocket the business. Fellowes is now a global manufacturer and marketer of business machines, records storage and office accessories. All their products are carefully designed and developed to enhance the quality, efficiency and productivity of the workplace. The company now owns and operates 15 subsidiaries worldwide in Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Russia, Australia, China, Malaysia, Japan, Korea and South Africa and employs more than 1,500 people throughout the world.
