Is Tummy time necessary?
Babies need to spend some time lying down each day. It helps with their physical development by building strength in their head, necks, arms, and shoulders and helps them develop coordination.
Baby tummy time is when your baby lies on their back and is then placed on their stomach for a short period. You can even start stomach time the day you bring home your baby from the hospital by lying the baby on your chest.
Start with a few minutes a few times per day. As your baby grows, it’ll be able to stay on its stomach for a longer period.
Remember, you should supervise the baby at all times during tummy time.

The younger baby is when you start tummy time, the better. This lets them get used to it. Even in the hospital, you can place a baby on its tummy on your chest, supporting its neck the whole time.
When you get home from the hospital, find quiet moments throughout your day for some tummy time. You can also lie or sit on the floor next to them and make faces or read them a board book.
