Chaff is commonly fed to horses and ponies to bulk out their feed concentrate and help prevent them from eating too quickly. Chaff is dried forage that has been cut into small pieces, in contrast to the long grass stems in hay and haylage.
Feeding chaff to your horse is a very useful addition to the diet, not only does it provide forage - which should be the foundation of any horse's diet - but it also encourages chewing. The chewing that chaff encourages stimulates the production of saliva which protects the upper stomach from acid in the lower stomach and therefore helps to maintain gastric health.
This chaff is a high quality, premium lucerne chaff, from Southern Cross Feeds. It is Australian family owned & operated and they provide the best quality products for the equine industry.
