Tamiya Putty (Basic Type)
Very high-quality, one-piece modeling putty, whose chemical composition is a polystyrene solvent. After complete drying, it acquires a light gray color. Among other things, this element ensures high ergonomics and comfort of work. Like other solvent-based putties, it reacts chemically with plastic (polystyrene) after application, and when completely dry it forms a relatively uniform whole with the putty elements of the model. It should be remembered that in the course of drying, the presented putty reduces its volume and has a tendency to "Collapsing". Of course, this is not a manufacturing defect, but a consequence of evaporation of the solvent therefrom. For this reason, it is recommended to apply a slightly larger amount ("outgrowth") on the putty surface, because when it is completely dry, it will simply be less. At the same time, it is recommended to level rather small defects, gaps or other imperfections of the model with a single layer of the presented putty - with a maximum depth / width of 1.5-2 mm, and preferably 0.5-1 mm. When filling larger voids, it is recommended to apply it in layers, i.e. after the first layer is completely dry, apply the second and possibly subsequent layers until the desired effect is achieved. However, it should be taken into account that a single layer dries completely after a few to several hours (depending on its thickness and the amount of putty applied), and thus creating several layers of it will undoubtedly extend the modeling work. The presented chemical substance can be applied to the surface of the model, for example with a wooden toothpick, a plastic spatula or a specialized steel applicator (for example: Feeder Model No. 2 or feeder Model NR12 ). It is worth adding that the discussed putty can also be properly diluted (e.g. with acetone) and applied with a modeling brush to particularly fine and small depressions. After it is completely dry, it can be easily processed with a file, the so-called with a sanding stick, sandpaper or abrasive (polishing) sponge. However, immediately after application, excess putty can be removed with a cotton swab or cotton stick soaked in a specialized thinner (for example: Lacquer Thinner or T-101 Mr. Color Thinner) and thus reduce the subsequent scope of grinding and polishing work. At the same time, this technique significantly minimizes the risk of accidentally grinding model details next to the putty surface. As in the case of other putties, it is recommended to apply it on elements cut out of the frames and already free of undesirable extruders. The surfaces adjacent to the putty part of the model can be protected with modelling masking tape (for example: Masking tape 10mm or Masking Tape 12mm). The presented chemical will be of great help in building any plastic model on any scale. It is one of the basic elements of every modeller's equipment!
