Pedals Shimano PD-M540 SPD Black

Upgraded from the base model PD-M520, the PD-M540 pedals have a better quality 'streamlined' spindle that eliminates the pedal-spanner 'flats' - looks nicer and shaves off a few grams. The PD-M540 pedals also have a better bearing seal to protect from mud and water, making them one of the most durable and bullet-proof products Shimano has ever made. 

Who is this product for?  As with the entry-level PD-M520 pedals, the PD-M540 pedals are for someone who will always want to put on their mountain bike shoes to go riding, but who doesn't mind spending a little bit extra for a nicer looking and slimmer pedal. You would probably be riding off-road, or you want a slightly more compact dual-sided pedal for your road or gravel bike.

All Shimano SPD pedals feature adjustable cleat tension, which means you can make them very easy to get in and out of, or dial up the tension to ensure your feet stay firmly attached even when launching over a drop-off out on the trail.

The Bicycle Depot Technical Top Tip: While you can tighten the PD-M520 pedals with a pedal spanner or slim 15mm open end spanner, the PD-M540 pedals attach only with an 8mm hex key. Tighten firmly, but don't go crazy! Don't forget the left pedal has a left hand thread!!! If unsure, seek assistance. And why not apply a little grease to the threads before fitting!
