Jubei is a rare sight on Kagejima as most of the servants of the Sun Emperor are not welcome on the Island of the Moon. Additionally most samurai find the ways of the ninja to be alien and dishonorable, their own pride and martial spirit, while commendable, tend to get in the way of them understanding ways that are different than their own. Jubei has an amazingly open world view and wishes to master the art of the sword completely.

Movement 5 is fairly average so he is neither super fast or noticeable slow. While he may not be the best at snatching and grabbing objectives or flanking your opponents he shouldn’t have much trouble being where the action is by running.

Jubei’s Attack of 5 and Defense of 4 are some of his biggest assets with attributes this high he is easily the match of a chunin in combat and makes an especially powerful offensive piece.

Having affinity with both air and earth is reflected in the keyword abilities he possess and synergizes especially well with Resilient.

Jubei has quite a few keywords pumping up his combat potential!

Close Combat Master: A ninja with Close Combat Master may reroll a single die during a non-ranged Attack.

Earth Mastery: Once per round, after a ninja with Earth Mastery makes a roll, they may reroll any dice that did not result in Earth.

Sensei: Once per round, one die rolled by any ninja on the same team as the ninja with Sensei may be rerolled.

Resilient: When a ninja with Resilient is Injured or Stunned roll a die. If any of the ninja’s affinities are rolled then injured is downgraded to Stunned, or Stunned is downgraded to nothing happening to the Resilient ninja.

Ronin: Ninja with Ronin follow all of the rules for ninja with Hero. Additionally, a team must pay Ronin a fee after each game so that they will stay with the team. This fee is a number of Koban listed after the slash on the model’s cost.

Since Ronin references Hero lets include that as well for the sake of completeness.

Hero: Ninja with Hero cannot gain XP, cannot increase their attributes, and cannot get new Keywords during league play. Heroes are unique characters and can only be included in a team once.

As we can see Jubei’s keywords buff both his hitting potential and make him pretty hard to injure or stun, while also providing a reroll that can be used each turn by any ninja on the team.

Each Ronin and Hero also has a special ability that can’t be found anywhere else in the game. Jubei’s Banzai can be especially useful in a scrum as he can reposition and then put a powerful attack on an enemy that otherwise would require dodging to attack.

While he is quite expensive to hire and upkeep he is a combat monster, especially early in league play when most ninjas won’t be his match up close and personal.
