Push the probe down, as vertically as possible to about two thirds the depth of the container, and about half way between the edge of the pot and the stem of the plant. Please make sure that you do not push the probe of the moisture meter too near the stem. Check the meter and note the watering number.

Check small pots more often than large ones as they dry out more quickly. Overwatering rots the roots, so do not water too frequently. When out of season, most plants only need water once a week.
