Almost two decades ago, Enduro Bearings introduced MAX-type bearings for bicycles, specifically to tackle challenges related to mountain bike pivots. These bearings, known as MAX-type, exhibit a 35-40% higher load capacity compared to standard radial bearings. This enhanced capacity is achieved through a specialized design where the maximum number of balls are placed into the bearing via a custom ground slot in the races. These additional balls, coupled with the deep race grooves, provide increased lateral support, effectively countering the twisting and multi-directional forces associated with mountain bike pivots.
The ABEC-3-rated MAX-type bearing by Enduro features deep-groove design races, Grade 10 balls, and full-contact, double-lip, labyrinth (LLU) seals to maximize defense against the elements. It retains a 90% fill of Almagard extra high-pressure grease, ensuring top-notch performance while the Black-Oxide/Magnetite coating adds an extra layer of corrosion resistance, extending its overall durability.
This specific bearing has found applications as a suspension pivot bearing, being utilized by several bicycle brands, including Orbea.
