This plant is a lovely annual native to the tropics and has been cultivated in gardens since 1570. This variety has scarlet red flowers and dark foliage on semi dwarf plants growing 75-90cm. The flower spike can last for as long as 8 weeks! This variety is also used as a vegetable in Africa where the leaves can be boiled and used like spinach. Annual Sow all year in tropical climates or Spring in cool zones Sow full sun, surface sow and keep moist, Germinates within approx. 10-14 days at 17-20 degrees Likes well mulched soil
