Adding a set of SPD clip-in pedals is probably the single biggest improvement you can make to your bike and to your cycling. Together with a good pair of Shimano mountain bike shoes, your riding efficiency and control will take a huge leap. Worried about learning to use SPD pedals? Don't worry - after a short learning period you'll never want to ride again without SPD clip-in pedals! And by the way, the PD-M520 pedals are one of the toughest, most robust bomb-proof products Shimano has ever produced. If only washing machines and mobile phones lasted as long...
All Shimano SPD pedals feature adjustable cleat tension, which means you can make them very easy to get in and out of, or dial up the tension to ensure your feet stay firmly attached even when launching over a drop-off out on the trail.
Who is this product for? These pedals are for someone who will always want to put on their mountain bike shoes to go riding, and would most likely be your first pair of clip-in type pedals. You would probably be riding off-road, or you want a compact dual sided pedal for your road or gravel bike. And don't worry, the M520 pedals might be 'entry-level' but they are easily good enough and durable enough to transfer to your next bike.
The Bicycle Depot Technical Top Tip: When fitting pedals, don't forget that the left and right pedals are different and are usually marked with an 'L' and an 'R' respectively, or with a line or 'knurling' on the spindle of the left pedal. The left pedal has a left-hand thread and tightens & loosens in the opposite direction to the right pedal. So the left pedal loosens in the clockwise direction, and tightens in an anti-clockwise direction! If unsure, STOP! and seek assistance.
