Must Have Eco-Friendly Products At Home

Here's a list of eco-friendly products you must have to contribute to the betterment of the environment.

Eco-friendly products

Sustainable living has been the talk of the town for a long time. So, if you have been asking yourself why should you buy eco-friendly products and what are their benefits, then read ahead.

With climate change transforming the world around us, we need to stop and take a minute to think about what can be done to reduce our carbon footprint. There are so many things we use on a daily basis that can be harming our planet. So, why not take a step towards changing our habits and products just a bit?

Using eco-friendly products is not a hard task. They are easily available and the best part is they are either reusable or biodegradable. This way you know that the money you will be spending at once will help you save a lot more in the future.

Compost Bins

Composting is a great practice and doesn’t even take that much effort if done right. You don’t need a compost bin that is very big unless you cook for a lot of people.

Furthermore, whether you have a garden or not we would recommend you keep a compost bin for any food waste. If you don’t have a garden just donate all the food waste you have collected to a community garden. Even if it doesn’t seem like a big thing, this small step will contribute to the betterment of the environment and well your community garden.

Food Storage

We have all been big fans of Tupperware and plastic storage containers as they are super cheap. But at the same time, plastic containers can be harmful to the environment and your health. Storing hot food in plastic containers can lead to certain toxins being released into the food that you consume and nobody wants that.

The Right Containers

Glass containers are a great alternative to plastic containers. They can be used in the microwave, freezer or dishwasher. You might think that glass containers are expensive but they last super long. Moreover, glass can be recycled many times making it the perfect material for a food storage container.

Just like Tupperware boxes, glass containers are often available in sets as well that include containers of different sizes. You can go for a glass container set that comes with bamboo lids.

Food Reusable Bags

You will notice that when you buy fruits and vegetables from your local supermarket, they often come in these plastic bags. Most people choose to store the fruit and veg in these plastic bags at home as well. However, there is always an eco-friendly way to go about this process. Firstly, get yourself a veggie bag. These can either be tote bags or bags with drawstrings to make it easier to carry your vegetables.

Secondly, when storing vegetables and food at home, you can use reusable food bags. There are different types of reusable bags you can use such as eco-friendly mesh bags or silicone bags. While we recommend using silicone bags for vegetables and fruits that have already been cut, you can always use them to store small produce.

Cutlery and Straws

Furthermore, with the COVID-19 pandemic still looming around the corner, it is better to have your clean and sanitised cutlery. Most cutlery sets will contain a fork, spoon and knife. But nowadays you can find ones with chopsticks, a straw and a straw cleaner as well. Stainless steel, wooden and bamboo cutlery sets can be easily carried around especially since most of them come in a compact carry bag.

Beeswax Food Wrapping Paper

And if you’re trying to reduce your use of plastic and want to be more eco-friendly, then you need to look for an alternative. Luckily for you, we have got two. The first one and one that you will need quite often is beeswax food wrap. This wrapping paper is made out of beeswax and is reusable for up to one year if kept well. Beeswax paper keeps your food fresh, is easy to clean and can wrap almost all types of foods. It is anti-bacterial and 100% biodegradable.

Investing in beeswax wrapping paper is much better than spending money over and over again buying cling wraps. The second thing you can use to keep your food fresh is silicone covers. We mentioned using silicone bags to store your food, silicone covers make it easier for you to store individual items.

Keep Cups

Moreover, you can get yourself different styles of Keep cups.

Cleaning Products

cleaning productsDid you know that cleaning products can be harmful to you in the long run? The number of chemicals used in cleaning products can damage your lungs, eyes and skin. Moreover, you come in contact with these cleaning products on a daily basis even if you are not cleaning your house with them every day. Your laundry detergent, beauty products, floor cleaners, etc., are all used regularly by you. You need to think about the kind of chemicals you are exposing yourself and the environment to.

Eco-friendly cleaning products use natural ingredients and even come in biodegradable containers. They are free of any harsh and harmful chemicals but do the same job as your regular cleaning products. When it comes to beauty products you need to be extra careful since you are using these products directly on your body. Stay away from harsh chemicals and products that have been tested on animals. Go for shampoos and conditioners made from natural ingredients and try using bar soaps instead of body washes.
