gaming zone setup

Gaming is a great way to relax and let yourself loose from time to time. For some people, it is a profession that requires the right headspace and the perfect setup. This is where we come in. If you are planning on setting up a gaming room in your house or want to decorate your gaming area, then we have got a couple of suggestions for you. Whether you have an entire room dedicated to gaming or a gaming corner in your bedroom, we can help. We’ll help you with all your queries on how to make a good gaming room at home.

Plan According to the Location

location

It is important to have a dedicated space for your gaming setup planned out before you buy any furniture and gaming equipment. If you have an entire room to yourself, you should measure the biggest wall you have for a desk. It is always better to have a big desk that can allow you to set up two to three monitors along with other things. Always remember to check for powerpoints because you will need enough powerpoints for your PC, speakers, lights and any additional equipment you may have.

If you only have a corner set up for your gaming, the rules are the same. Measure the area and get a desk that won’t make it feel too cramped. You will need to think of desk space and enough space for a chair as well. You don’t want your chair to restrict your movement across the room.

Along with measuring the space for a desk, you should also map out areas where you can add some storage furniture such as shelves and cabinets. Open shelves are commonly used for gaming areas where you can place all your games and maybe some collectables.

The Desk

the desk

Invest in a gaming desk. If you are planning on gaming for long periods, you need a desk that can take that much activity. Gaming desks are meant to make your gaming experience a lot easier. They are usually scratchproof and provide a smooth tabletop for ease of movement. You can easily place more than one monitor on these desks and not worry about the weight. These desks usually offer some additional features such as cup holders, hooks and ports for cable management, mousepads, adjustable height and more. An important thing to keep in mind when buying a desk for your gaming area, you need to have enough leg space to stretch your legs out.

office desk

If buying a gaming desk is not an option then go for a simple office desk. You don’t want a bulky office desk that is heavy and takes up most of the space in the room. A minimalist design with either a few drawers or storage shelves on the side is perfect for a gaming setup.

Gaming Chair

Since gaming requires you to be seated for long hours, it’s only fair to have a comfortable chair. Gaming chairs are meant to provide you with extra comfort for your back. The design provides enough support for the curve of your back and the wide design of the backrest gives your shoulders support as well. So, leaning back on a gaming chair should be super comfortable. Features such as adjustable height and adjustable armrests are common along with chair wheels allowing you to move easily when gaming. We would recommend getting yourself an ergonomic gaming chair for a comfortable gaming experience.

How to fit a gaming setup in a small room?

There are various ways where you can have the perfect gaming set up in a tiny space. You just need to plan it out well. Cutting down on the number of monitors you will need is always a good idea. Unfortunately with less space, you have to compromise on the number of monitors you can use or go for a horizontal-vertical setup; you can have one monitor set horizontally while the other is set up on the side vertically.

Corner Desks

If you only have a corner of your room available for gaming set-up, then make full use of that corner. You can get yourself a corner desk that fits snugly in the corner and gives you enough space to set up a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Keep the paraphernalia on the desk to a minimum and voila! You have a gaming corner.

Loft and Game

Loft beds are a great option if you’re trying to save some space. If you’re living in student accommodation, a studio or a tiny apartment, space-saving is important. A loft bed is just like a bunk bed except there is no bed at the bottom. The empty space is perfect for a gaming desk. You can get a desk and chair that is wide enough to fit under the loft bed. Furthermore, the underside of the loft bed also gives you the opportunity to install some cool lights.

Floating Desks

A wall-mounted desk that is just big enough for a minimalistic gaming setup is ideal if you have a small room. You can store your games and other equipment in a different place and have a desk just to keep your monitor, keyboard and mouse.

How to Decorate your Gaming Room?

Now for the actual setup, you can get a few decoration items and get ready to show off your collectables. Whether you are a twitch streamer or just game for hours because you like to, what your surroundings look like matters a lot.

Ambient Lighting

It’s all about the lighting when you are setting up your gaming zone. RGB lights are popular among gamers. From keyboards that light up in these colours to LED strips, RGB is a great way to add colour and drama to your gaming area. However, we recommend using a lamp or two for some low lighting. The room needs to be lit up well enough for you to look around the room without having to adjust to the darkness. For your gaming desk, you can have a lamp that gives the area a wash of colour.

In addition to the yellow or white lights you use for the overall lighting of the room or area, you can use stylish lamps that change colours. LED strips can be put on the rim of the gaming desk for a super-cool effect. Mood lamps and sunset lamps are an excellent way to add some cool light effects to the gaming area as well.

The Day to Night Looks

home office and gaming room

If you have just one extra room in the house but need it for the office during the day, a day to night look is what you need. Your days can be spent in a sophisticated home office and at night that same space can be a colourful gaming zone. All you need is the right office desk, nothing too bulky, an ergonomic chair and a few more things. Make sure the desk is near a window where you can get a lot of natural light but you also have the option of putting the blinds down. Use a few shelves around the room with some dedicated to office-related stuff and others dedicated to your games, comics, figurines, posters, collectables and anything you want in the room.

Your mood lamps and LED lights can be used only when you are gaming giving you the perfect space for your work and leisure activities.

Storage and Display

storage and display cabinets

Rooms dedicated entirely to gaming would always have an item that is worth showing off to others. Whether you have a Funko-pop collection or a life-size lego Baby Yoda, you will need a place to display these things. Floating shelves are a great option for small and big spaces. You will need a place to store all your game CDs. Use bookends to keep them in place and have them neatly organised on floating shelves.

Closed cabinets with glass doors are ideal for storing and displaying your collectables. Open shelves can be used for tiny figurines from your favourite game, but we would still recommend keeping them in closed cabinets to avoid having to clean the dust off the figurines every day.

More Lights…

We have mentioned lights before but did we talk about lit up desks, keyboard mats or more? If you feel like a mood lamp is too boring or just doesn’t provide enough dramatic lighting to the room, you can always go for a lit-up gaming desk. If that doesn’t excite you then you can go for a stylish keyboard mat that lights up and also gives you a wireless charging pad! Still not convinced? Then let’s try something different. A diffuser is definitely not the first thing you think of in a gaming setup. But a cool diffuser-humidifier that lights up like fireworks is perfect for your gaming zone.

The organisation is Important

Lastly, you need to remember that your gaming area needs to be organised. If you are going to spend hours seated in one spot, you need to keep it clean and organised. This is especially important for people who don’t have a lot of space for their gaming equipment and decor. Keep your games stacked neatly on shelves in a way you can see their names clearly. Your desk should always be organised and any snacks and water bottles should be kept away from the setup. So, a desk with a bottle or cup holder is a great option. Any lamps, lights and figurines should be kept away from the desk.

Sound plays a huge role in gaming. If you like to use speakers when gaming then we would recommend soundproofing the room. Rubber lining on doors and windows or a simple panelling would lower the noise from reaching out to your neighbours. Wooden or glass doors are a great option for soundproofing the area as well.

Once, you’re done following all these steps, you will hopefully have the perfect personal gaming zone at home. Check out our gamer’s zone collection for all the cool things you will need to decorate your gaming area.
