ROMAN INC - SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL - PATRON OF CHARITABLE SOCIETIES

Figurine comes nicely displayed in a box with a front window, with a prayer on the front and the story of the Saint on the back, and a prayer card inside.

Prayer to St Vincent de Paul:
"O glorious Saint Vincent, heavenly patron of all charitable associations, and father of all who are in misery, whilst thou was on earth, thou didst never cast out any who came to thee;  consider by that evils we are oppressed and come to our assistance!  Obtain from thy lord help for the poor, relief for the infirm, consolation for the afflicted, protection for the abandoned, a spirit of generosity for the rich, the grace of conversion for the sinners, zeal for priests, peace for the Church, tranquillity and order for all nations and salvation for them all.   Yea, let all men prove the effects of thy merciful intercession, so that, being helped by thee in miseries of this life, we may be no more grief united to thee in the life to come, where there shall be no more grief, nor weeping, nor sorrow, but joy and gladness and everlasting happiness. Amen"

Although a young peasant of France, St Vincent was educated at Acqs by the Franciscan Monks. Because of this schooling and his accomplishments in education, he was chosen to tutor the children of an established gentlemen. After four years of tutoring the children, St Vincent was able to continue his education. He began the studies of divinity at the University of Toulouse and became a priest at the age of twenty. During his travels, St Vincent was taken prisoner by Turkish pirates and sold as a slave. He was kept as a slave for two years and escaped his imprisonment of slavery by converting one of the owners to Christianity. When St Vincent returned to Paris, he established organisations and missions of charity to help the poor, the sick and the unemployed. He founded the Congregation of the Daughters Charity and the Congregation of Priests of the Mission. St Vincent continued to work to benefit those in need for the duration of his life.  He became known as The Apostle of Charity and was honoured by many.
